Anglos should be skeptical of PQ leader’s olive branch

The Gazette’s Allison Hanes says English-speaking Quebecers should be skeptical of PQ Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s outreach, arguing past promises of inclusion by sovereignist and nationalist leaders were followed by policies weakening anglophone rights. She says his pledge to hold a first-mandate sovereignty referendum would create uncertainty and distract from issues like housing, the economy and public services. Hanes also questions his commitment to English institutions, citing his support for stronger language laws, extending Bill 101 to CEGEPs and removing some municipalities’ bilingual status.
