The Parti Québécois’s proposed plan to expand Bill 101 to CEGEPs prompted serious concerns in the province’s English-language community Monday, with one anglophone-rights group calling the move “overall disappointing and disheartening.”

“It’s very disheartening to see that instead of looking at ways to promote the French language, we’re once again targeting the English-speaking community and one of its few institutions left,” Eva Ludvig, president of TALQ, said in an interview.

With the election campaign in full swing, the PQ outlined measures it would implement to “reverse the decline of French once and for all” if it forms the next Quebec government, including investigating “the language of socialization” of young people in Montreal and Laval schools.
