In an op-ed in the Gazette, Mona Beck, president of TALQ member Seniors Action Quebec, argues that Quebec’s rapidly aging population should be a central election issue. By 2031, one in four Quebecers will be over 65, increasing pressure on an already strained health-care system, with thousands of seniors waiting for home care or long-term care. Beck says English-speaking seniors face added barriers due to limited French skills and fewer family supports. She calls on political parties to commit to greater home-care investment and ensure seniors’ linguistic and cultural needs, including access to English-language services, are respected.
