Petition against Quebec’s Bill 15 garners 6,400 signatures, will be presented at National Assembly
Critics of Bill 15, including the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN), argue that the far-reaching legislation – on which the National Assembly may hold its final vote as soon as this week – would limit access to health care in English and jeopardize the status of bilingual institutions. A surprise amendment last week to the bill, subsequently placed on the back burner by the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government, would confer on freshly formed Santé Québec the power to revoke English services in institutions in areas where the English-speaking community has been reduced to below 50 per cent.
