PQ on verge of majority government with a week to election day, polls suggest

With three new polls suggesting the Parti Québécois is flirting with majority status in next week’s provincial election, leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon said a majority would allow his party to launch a referendum — without actually saying the word referendum on Monday.

St-Pierre Plamondon said his party was putting “the pedal to the metal” to gain enough support in the final six days of campaigning.

“The difference between a majority and a minority is not only the stability of a government … it’s also the chance to fulfil our commitments,” he told reporters on a stop in Richmond in the Eastern Townships.

“So we have to convince Quebecers who want change to support the party that’s able to bring this change, and to show in four years it’s feasible to fulfil the commitments that we have promised — all of our promises.”
