Quebec votes in a PQ minority. How are you feeling about that?
During Radio Noon, reporter Gabriel Guindy recapped a watch party at TALQ attended by representatives from a range of associations serving Quebec’s English-speaking community.
While participants were not surprised by the PQ victory, there was a sense of relief when a minority government was announced, along with a shared hope that the new government will take a more collaborative approach with the community. Chris Craig, VP of QESBA, said the current funding models make it difficult to ensure all students can thrive and urged the government to work more closely with experts when making decisions. S
ta Kuzviwanza of PERT highlighted barriers facing workers, including the need for better access to French-language training. TALQ Director General Sylvia Martin-Laforge said the past eight years have taught English-speaking Quebecers to remain vigilant and to challenge government measures through the courts and other channels. She said the new government presents an opportunity for a different approach and expressed hope for greater collaboration going forward.
