TALQ reaction to provincial election results

Press release

TALQ ready to work with new Quebec government

TALQ congratulates Premier-elect Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and looks forward to working constructively with the new government on issues of importance to Quebec’s English-speaking communities.

“We are ready to establish a productive relationship, as we have always done,” said Eva Ludvig, President of TALQ. “TALQ will ensure that the next government knows that Quebec’s English-speaking community is open and willing to work together. We look forward to seeing that commitment reflected in the government’s actions.”

In the immediate term, TALQ hopes to work with the new government to ensure access to electoral information in English. During the campaign, Premier-elect St-Pierre Plamondon questioned the value of challenging bilingual voter information, noting that voting is a fundamental right. “We welcome those comments and look forward to turning them into a constructive conversation,” said Ludvig.

The election also produced a minority government, reflecting the diverse representation Quebecers have chosen in the National Assembly and creating a greater need for dialogue, cooperation, and consideration of different perspectives. TALQ will work to ensure that the priorities of English-speaking Quebecers are taken into account as the government develops its policies.
