TALQ seeks talks with new Quebec government on anglophone priorities

News

TALQ says it will seek an early meeting with Quebec’s new minority government to discuss the priorities of English-speaking communities, with access to electoral information in English among its immediate concerns.

In an Oct. 6 statement, the organization congratulated premier-elect Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and said it was ready to build a constructive relationship with the incoming government.

“We are ready to establish a productive relationship, as we have always done,” said TALQ president Eva Ludvig.

“TALQ will ensure that the next government knows that Quebec’s English-speaking community is open and willing to work together. We look forward to seeing that commitment reflected in the government’s actions.”

Electoral information in English

TALQ pointed to comments made by St-Pierre Plamondon during the campaign. According to the organization, he questioned the value of challenging bilingual voter information and noted that voting is a fundamental right.

“We welcome those comments and look forward to turning them into a constructive conversation,” Ludvig said.
