Drimonis: Language issues? Let’s ask the guy who speaks more than 20

Opinion

Steve Kaufmann, a linguist and podcaster, says he’s impressed by the level of bilingualism among anglos when he visits his native Montreal.

We collectively spend so much time arguing over language and language legislation in Quebec that when I had the opportunity to sit down with Steve Kaufmann, a linguist and polyglot who speaks more than 20, I jumped on it.

Kaufmann, who recently turned 80, is a former diplomat who founded the language learning system LingQ and hosts a YouTube channel called “Lingo Steve” with 1.4 million subscribers. Ten of his languages were acquired after the age of 60, dispeling the notion that we slow down intellectually as we age.
