Santé Québec defends mostly French website despite anglo concerns

Press release

Still, the agency is in talks with the Office québécois de la langue française and the Ministry of the French Language about the possibility of adding some English.

Despite launching more than a year ago, Santé Québec’s website is nearly all in French even though the province’s English speakers have the legal right to receive health and social services in their mother tongue — a right that is not being respected when it comes to online communications, decry anglo leaders.

In fact, until Nov. 5, Santé Québec’s website was 100 per cent in French only, even though the website of the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec has an English button on the top right-hand side, and the website of the Ministry of Health and Social Services has English content. On Nov. 5, Santé Québec added English translations to two of its public-service messages, but the user must first click on the French messages to find a button in English; the rest of the website is in French only.
