Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette is defending French-only election mailings after initially saying her government would examine the issue, while Élections Québec says it had repeatedly raised concerns about losing bilingual voter information.

Quebec Liberal candidate Hugo Fontaine offered his opinion to The Pulse through his campaign team, saying the change could affect some English-speaking seniors in the Richmond riding who do not read French.

For the first time in a Quebec general election, the provincial election guide, notice of entry on the voters list and reminder card will be mailed exclusively in French.

English information will be available online through a QR code printed on the French documents. Élections Québec says it is now too late to produce English versions before the Oct. 5 election.
